Cerebral Palsy and Athetoid Cerebral Palsy Information Site - Cerebral Palsy Articles: "The Evolution of Worry
Worry can spark action if you worry and realize a plan of action needs to be initiated-- and you act. Under those circumstance worry is serving you well.
Worry can spark your imagination. Sometimes having a cerebral cortex is not much fun. Imagination can litter our internal environment with every manner of fearful possibility. Many fearful possibilities do not exist outside of our fertile imaginations. Nonetheless, they trigger the same damaging chemical and physical changes as a genuine emergency.
Physical and Chemical Changes. Your body starts pumping out an array of chemicals (such as adrenaline) that increase the flow of blood and oxygen to your brain and skeletal muscles. Your blood also clots faster, ready to repair any injuries you sustain in your 'fight or flight' reaction.
Possible Consequences of Worry and Stress
You may be all keyed up with nothing to fight or flee and no way to turn off the stress chemicals. You become a ticking bomb that is not allowed to explodeso you may implode. If this happens frequently, it can have a serious, even deadly, effect on your health.
Every system in your body is affected by worry. In addition to raising blood pressure and increasing blood clotting, worry can prompt your liver to produce more cholesterol, all of which can raise your risk of heart attack and stroke. Muscle tension can give rise to headaches, back pain, and other body aches. Worry can also trigger an increase in stomach acid and either slow or speed up muscle contractions in your intestines, which can lead to stomach aches, constipation, diarrhea, gas or heartburn. Worry can affect your skin (rash or itch). It can impact your respiratory system by aggravating asthma. Growing evidence even suggests that chronic " Click to read full article

Cerebral Palsy and Athetoid Cerebral Palsy Information Site - Cerebral Palsy Articles: "The intriguing Human psyche - more complex than the metamorphosing cocoon, and more phenomenal than the human brain could ever imagine.
Deep within the realm of your subconscious is the centrifuge, or cerebral core of all Human possibilities. Therein, lies the key to the supernatural, heightened spirituality and the unique potential of overcoming obstacles, large and small.
Human psyche is one of life?s most bizarre and unparalleled traits within the physical being. It enables our extrasensory perception, encourages drive and motivation, feeds our emotional balance and at times, permits us to undertake feats that our conscious being would never allow.
It controls impulses in our brains that activate our dreams, instills our fears and is the driving force of our physical stamina. The deity within of which all life transforms into the wakened being ? thus is the Human psyche.
Interestingly, we never notice its presence, as it is always with us. Spiritual and emotional awareness are the elaborate, invisible compounds of it. As we wake each morning, oblivious to the ensuing day, it is the psyche that jumpstarts our will to conquer the light, to tempt our nerves and even directs our hopes and dreams.
Stories of the impossible made possible through incredible feats of strength and psychic-kinetic energies released through channels of our internal beings; the mysterious force that empowers mind over matter .
Through our psyche, boundaries are nonexistent between the parallel planes of all inter-human, spiritual connections. By means of meditation, we permit our bodies to become" Click to read full article

Cerebral Palsy and Athetoid Cerebral Palsy Information Site - Cerebral Palsy Articles: "Mike Morales has always been a hard worker. He worked for a national tire chain as a store manager for the last 16 years, and was at work five to six days a week for 10-12 hours a day. A year after making store manager with the national tire chain, Morales went in diabetic shock and spent three days in Intensive Care. That was in 1998 when he was 27 years old. From that point on, his blood sugar levels were regulated by two to three self-administered insulin shots per day. Seven months ago, Morales woke up to find his face was paralyzed, and he discovered he had contracted Bell's Palsy, a disease characterized by paralysis and loss of facial control.

In June 2004, Truxxx Manufacturing lured him away from his career in the retail tire industry with something they could not offer - a four day work week. Truxxx Manufacturing was looking for an Operations Manager who understood the tire and wheel industry and could complement their line of lift kits for pickup trucks. Mike Morales accepted the challenge and discovered an unexpected side effect. 'I can whistle!' Morales said after being with the company two weeks 'With the Bell's Palsy I haven't been able to whistle in months.' Other noticeable effects of the work schedule change include a massive reduction in insulin usage (only one shot in two months), and a more relaxed home" Click to read full article

Cerebral Palsy and Athetoid Cerebral Palsy Information Site - Cerebral Palsy Articles: "A panel of international vascular specialists will speak on the most recent advances in the management of carotid artery disease.

Dr. Takao Ohki, Director of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, Montefiore Medical Center (Bronx, NY) and Associate Professor of Surgery, Albert Einstein College of Medicine (Bronx, NY), will begin by discussing the strengths and limitations of cerebral protection devices at VEITHsymposium, November 24th, 12:05 p.m. at the Sheraton New York Hotel & Towers (New York, NY).

'Second generation cerebral protection devices will play a key role in transitioning from carotid endarterectomy to carotid bifurcation stenting (CBAS),' said Dr. Ohki. Neurologic deficits secondary to embolic events have been the most significant concern regarding carotid bifurcation stenting. Experimental studies with human carotid plaques have shown that embolic particles are released from all specimens. Transcranial Doppler studies have confirmed the fact that multiple emboli are released during each case. Preliminary experiences associated with the use of cerebral protection devices for carotid stenting have shown encouraging results with embolic particles recovered from each case. Dr. Ohki will present the results of a recent feasibility study associated with one of the newer devices while reviewing the" Click to read full article

The Company has recently been awarded three other NIH grants: 1) a five-year R01 grant for the research and development of a bioactive nerve guide for the repair of peripheral nerves; 2) a two-year SBIR Phase II grant for the development of collagen-based matrix reference materials for tissue engineering research and development and 3) a two-year SBIR phase II grant for the development of collagen-based endoprosthesis for the repair of peripheral vascular diseases.

The neurosurgical and interventional neuroradiology community is in serious need of a viable therapy for giant aneurysms, which are cerebral aneurysms that cannot be treated by current methods using platinum coils. If an acceptable device is developed, it is estimated that the yearly gross revenues from such a device would exceed at least $100 million. The proposed device is specifically designed " Click to read full article
